Overview and Screenshots
Android Lollipop is an operating system for smarthpones considered by many to be the only possible alternative to Apple's iOS, both systems being vastly superior to other competitors. Lollipop is an improved and updated version of the regular Android OS and comes with a few useful tweaks and additions.
Android 5.1 Lollipop interface
Lollipop has the same slick nice-looking touch-screen interface design as other versions of Android OS, but this time it's even better, with bright bold coloring and effects. In its core, it's the same much-advertised 'card design', with big and small colored cards serving as main access and navigation points. The aesthetic and functional beauty comes from different colors and shadows that make the interface look more detailed. Card icons representing various applications respond to touch with different shadows and ripple effect animations creating an effect of direct manipulation of the contents by users. Several toolbars are placed a bit differently, making access easier and helping users navigate the telephone menus a lot faster. There are also a couple of new elements in the status bar,
Lollipop provides various new features such as new notification hooks that work with Android Wear, better battery management using Project Volta, which allows the device to work with minimal battery charge, and cross-platform compatibility with Chrome OS, as well as multiple SIM card support, HD voice calling, etc. Special mention goes to the feature called Device Protection which blocks attempts at factory resetting an Android device that is possibly stolen. Other things of note are improved Google Play compatibility and impressively boosted performance speeds.

This page provides release information about the SDK packages available for download from the SDK Manager, in the SDK Platforms tab.
Each SDK Platform version includes the following packages:
- The Android SDK Platform package. This is required to compile your app for that version.
- Several System Image packages. At least one of these is required to run that version on the Android Emulator. Each platform version includes a system image for each supported form factor (handsets, Android TV, and Android Wear). Each form factor may offer variations to match your computer's processor architecture (such as Intel x86 and ARM EABI). System images labeled Google APIs include access to Google Play services and those labeled Google Play also include Google Play Store.
- The Sources for Android package. This includes the source files for the platform. Android Studio may show lines of code from these files while you debug your app.
The revision numbers listed below are for the Android SDK Platformpackage only. The system images may receive separate updates, usually to resolvebugs with the emulator. There are no release notes for the system images, butyou should always keep them up to date.
Important: To see the most recent Androidsystem components in the Android SDK Manager, you must first updateSDK Tools to the most recentrelease and restart the SDK Manager.
